Labirinto di Arianna, Fiumara d’Arte in Sicily

From the Pyramid to the Labyrinth

LAND ART, VILLAGE LIFE AND FLAVOURS IN THE LIVING NEBRODI

Enter the landscape of Fiumara d’Arte and discover its territory through people, villages and flavours.

This two-day journey connects two of the most powerful landmarks of contemporary art in Sicily: the Piramide – 38° Parallelo in Motta d’Affermo and the Labirinto di Arianna in Castel di Lucio.

Between them lie hilltop villages, rural landscapes, local producers and communities that still preserve a deep connection with the land.

Come for the art. Stay for the people and the stories shared around the table.

Castel di Lucio, village of the Labyrinth of Ariadne

Two days between art, landscape and flavours

DAY 1 — MOTTA D’AFFERMO: ART ON THE HORIZON

Arrival in Motta d’Affermo and welcome by the local community.

Walk through the historic village and discover its relationship with the surrounding countryside and the monumental works of Fiumara d’Arte.

Depending on timing and local conditions, the journey may include an encounter with Energia Mediterranea, the great blue wave created by Antonio Di Palma.

Meet a local producer and take part in a tasting or practical experience connected with the agricultural traditions of the area. Seasonal possibilities may include cheeses, cured meats, olive oil, honey, herbs or natural products.

Afterwards, travel towards the Piramide – 38° Parallelo by Mauro Staccioli. Standing between the mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, the monumental sculpture marks the passage of the geographical parallel and opens the landscape towards the horizon.

When conditions allow, experience the Pyramid in the warm light of sunset.

Dinner inspired by local ingredients and stories, followed by an overnight stay in the area.

DAY 2 — CASTEL DI LUCIO: ENTER THE LABYRINTH

After breakfast, travel to Castel di Lucio, a rural village where traditional crafts, farming culture and contemporary art meet.

Walk through the village accompanied by a local narrator and discover the stories of its community.

Continue towards the Labirinto di Arianna by Italo Lanfredini. Enter the monumental spiral and experience an artwork that becomes a physical and emotional journey through silence, landscape and self-discovery.

Share an experiential lunch or tasting based on local and seasonal products, which may include cheeses, ricotta, cured meats, preserves and traditional bread.

When available, meet a producer or artisan and learn how local knowledge continues to shape everyday life.

Before leaving, enjoy some time with the community and the opportunity to purchase local products directly from their makers.

DAY 4 — THE ANCIENT CITY OF HALAESA

After breakfast, travel to the archaeological site of Halaesa Arconidea, where the remains of the ancient Greek and Roman city overlook the Tyrrhenian coast.

Walk through a landscape where archaeology, nature and the sea come together, accompanied by the stories of the people who continue to study and protect this extraordinary place.

Lunch during the excursion, followed by an afternoon walk through the historic village of Tusa.

Dinner at leisure and overnight stay.

DAY 5 — A LAST TASTE OF SICILY

After breakfast, enjoy some free time for a final walk, individual activities and last-minute purchases.
