FOLLOW ANCIENT PATHS AND SHARED TABLES
An eight-day journey from Sicily’s inland heart to the Tyrrhenian Sea, following the ancient routes once used to carry grain towards the port of Halaesa.
Beginning among the rolling hills surrounding Nicosia, the journey crosses the Nebrodi Mountains and reaches the northern coast overlooking the Aeolian Islands.
Along the way, you will prepare bread and fresh pasta, meet farmers and artisans, taste local cheeses and Sicilian wines, walk through historic villages and discover how wheat has shaped the landscape, traditions and communities of this part of Sicily.
More than an itinerary, the Wheat Route is a story shared around the table.
Eight days from the heart of Sicily to the sea
DAY 1 — WELCOME TO THE HEART OF SICILY
Arrival at Palermo or Catania Airport and transfer to Nicosia, a historic town in the heart of Sicily.
Visit a nineteenth-century farmhouse and discover ancient millstones carved directly into the rock.
Dinner prepared with local, seasonal ingredients, accompanied by a guided tasting of Sicilian wines.
Overnight stay.
DAY 2 — PASTA, WINE AND WILD HERBS
Spend the day with a local massaro and prepare fresh pasta together before sharing a convivial lunch made with local products.
In the afternoon, take part in two encounters dedicated to Sicily’s food culture: a guided tasting of five Sicilian wines and an introduction to the medicinal and aromatic herbs that grow throughout the countryside.
Traditional dinner at the farmhouse and overnight stay.
DAY 3 — NICOSIA AND SPERLINGA
Travel to Sperlinga, one of Sicily’s most distinctive villages, built into the rock and dominated by its medieval castle. Explore its ancient cave dwellings and discover the Gallo-Italic heritage shared by the communities of this inland area.
After lunch, return to Nicosia for a walk through its historic centre.
In the evening, enjoy an experiential tasting of local dairy and buffalo products paired with Sicilian wines.

DAY 4 — TOWARDS THE NEBRODI, WITH THE SEA ON THE HORIZON
Travel to Mistretta, an ancient town in the Nebrodi Mountains, rich in noble palaces, historic churches and centuries of craftsmanship.
Visit the Cocchiara Ethno-Anthropological Museum, where tools, objects and works of art preserve the memory of traditional rural life and local crafts.
After lunch, take part in a hands-on bread-making workshop and bake bread together using local ingredients and knowledge passed down through generations.
Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 5 — SANTO STEFANO DI CAMASTRA, THE TOWN OF CERAMICS
Spend the day in Santo Stefano di Camastra, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aeolian Islands.
Visit the MUDIS ceramic museum and discover the artistic and archaeological heritage of the Nebrodi area.
After lunch, enter a local artisan workshop and create your own ceramic piece under the guidance of master craftspeople, accompanied by a tasting of local products.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay.
DAY 6 — ART IN THE LANDSCAPE
Travel through Castel di Lucio and Motta d’Affermo, villages crossed by the historic Wheat Route and connected by the monumental works of Fiumara d’Arte.
Walk through the Labirinto di Arianna before sharing lunch and taking part in a workshop dedicated to local grains and flours.
At sunset, reach the Piramide – 38° Parallelo, where contemporary art, landscape and the sea meet.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay.
DAY 7 — TUSA AND THE ANCIENT CITY OF HALAESA
Explore the historic village of Tusa before sharing lunch in a local trattoria.
In the afternoon, visit the archaeological site of Halaesa Arconidea. Walk through the remains of the ancient city and look towards the Tyrrhenian coast, imagining the ships that once carried Sicily’s grain and produce towards Rome.
This is where the Wheat Route reaches the sea and where the story of the journey comes together.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay.
DAY 8 — FAREWELL AND DEPARTURE
After breakfast, meet for a final briefing and share the memories of the journey.
Transfer to Palermo or Catania Airport.
